Imereti

Imereti is located in the central part of west Georgia. From the east Georgian region, Shida Kartli Imereti is divided by the Likhi range, by Samtskhe-Javakheti – Meskheti range, by Racha-Lechkhumi, which borders Imereti from the north – Nakerala range, and from Samegrelo on the west – by Tskhenistskali river, from the south-west region is bordered by Guria. The capital and the biggest city of Imereti is Kutaisi. The main river of Imereti is Rioni, well known from ancient Greek sources as river Pazisi. The climate in Imereti is humid and warm. East and north parts of the region are in mountains and mostly covered by forests, the west lowland part doesn’t have many forests. For tourists mostly interesting is the town Kutaisi itself, located near Kutaisi Gelati monastery, which is listed by UNESCO as a world heritage site, together with Bagrati cathedral. Besides cultural heritage, very interesting is the Imereti caves protected area– which consists of Sataplia reserve, Kumistavi caves, and Navenakhevi caves. For ecotourism is also very interesting Borjomi-Kharagauli national park and for archaeological tours – Vani ancient town.
